A new wildfire sparked in the Uncompahgre National Forest on Sunday afternoon near Montrose grew to 16 acres overnight, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The Spring Creek fire, which is different from a wildfire of the same name burning near Parachute, was first reported at approximately 3:44 p.m. Sunday in the forest 15 miles southwest of Montrose.
No structures are threatened by the fire, though National Forest roads including Paradox Road and Spring Creek Trailhead Road are closed. Sections of the Spring Creek Trail, Paradox Trail and East Fork Dry Creek Trail are also closed.
The fire was 20% contained as of 7 p.m., according to an update from the Forest Service.
Crews working to suppress the fire include a helicopter, two bulldozers, two fire engines and two fire modules.
