Massive amounts of snow have pounded the Colorado high country since Wednesday with seven ski resorts receiving three feet or more — and snow continued to fall Monday morning.
From Wednesday through Monday morning, Monarch led the way with 50 inches. Steamboat was close behind at 48 and Crested Butte at 46. Winter Park received 42, Eldora 40, Wolf Creek 39, Copper Mountain 37 and Vail 35.
Resorts recording 24 to 32 inches included Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, Aspen Highlands, Loveland, Cooper, Powderhorn and Keystone.
Many mountain roads were closed this morning due to adverse conditions and safety concerns, including Silverthorne to the Eisenhower-Johnson tunnels, Vail Pass from Copper Mountain to Vail, Loveland Pass, Berthoud Pass, Steamboat to Kremmling including Rabbit Ears Pass and Rabbit Ears to Cameron Pass.
Despite the abundant snow of the past week, most resorts still have below-normal base depths. Only Vail, Monarch, Crested Butte and Beaver Creek are normal or above. Winter Park and Steamboat are near normal. Eight resorts are at 80-89% of normal and nine are below 80%.
Tuesday will be dry and partly cloudy in the mountains, , with 2-12 inches of snow due for the northern mountains on Wednesday and Thursday. Another storm may arrive on Sunday.
