The Denver metro area could get some snow over the next few days, but warmer temperatures will limit how long it sticks around.

The mountains will start getting snow Thursday night, mainly concentrated in the mountains south of Interstate 70 and in Grand and Boulder counties about midnight.

Up to three inches could fall there, and some snow could make it out of the high country into the metro area, though any lower elevation snow will be light and less than an inch, forecasters at the National Weather Service in Boulder said.

Friday morning snow favors the Palmer Divide, where temperatures will stay cool enough for up to a few inches of wet, slushy snow to fall.

Denver could likely see an inch or two of snow, but the warmer temperatures will limit accumulation, particularly on roadways. As the temperature warms to about 40 degrees into Friday afternoon, any snow will start mixing with rain.

A few more inches of snow are possible for the mountains along the continental divide Friday afternoon as well, then the state starts drying out by midnight.

After Saturday, next week will be pretty warm in Denver, with Tuesday and Wednesday pushing highs in the low 60s.
