A Denver woman charged with child abuse in her 9-month-old daughter’s 2020 death was found not guilty this week, according to the Denver district attorney’s office.

Jolene Beyer Lacrue was charged with child abuse resulting in death after her daughter, Gianna Rosales, died from blunt force injuries on Aug. 4, 2020. She was found not guilty after a jury trial Tuesday.

Cain Gallardo, whom police described as Beyer Lacrue’s boyfriend, also was arrested and charged with child abuse resulting in death. He was found guilty by a Denver jury in October and sentenced to 40 years in prison in December, according to court records.

A statement from the firm representing Beyer Lacrue, Brackley Law Office PLCC, said Gianna’s injuries likely were inflicted when Beyer Lacrue was at work.

“We are thankful that the jury saw this case for what it is. Ms. Beyer Lacrue is a mother who lost her daughter in terribly sad and tragic circumstances due to likely abuse by Mr. Gallardo,” the firm said in a statement. “Ms. Beyer Lacrue will grieve the loss of Gianna Rosales for the rest of her life.”
