
Arvada crews continue to battle a fire that sparked in a storage unit building just off Interstate 70 Tuesday morning — a fight that will likely carry on overnight, fire officials said.
Just after 6 a.m., fire crews responded to reports of smoke coming from a storage facility on Carr Street and I-70’s frontage road, fire officials said in a . Flames and thick smoke could be seen in the area, with the wind pushing the smoke across the interstate.
One of Arvada’s StorQuest Self Storage locations sits at the intersection of an I-70 frontage road and Carr Street. StorQuest’s signage could also be seen in multiple photos posted by the Arvada fire department Tuesday morning.
When crews arrived on scene, firefighters were met with heavy fire conditions burning on the second floor and attic throughout most of the storage building, which housed around 70 individual storage units, .
Crews were forced to work defensively and doused the building with water for most of the morning, fire officials said.
Firefighters from the Fairmount Fire Protection District and West Metro Fire Rescue joined Arvada crews on the defense, .
Heavy smoke from the fire was blowing across the interstate for most of the morning — especially near Wadsworth Boulevard — causing low visibility and slowing traffic, .

Information about the cause of the fire, potential damages and when the blaze will be doused was not available Tuesday.
As of Tuesday afternoon, fire investigators were on scene to determine the cause and origin of the storage unit blaze.
Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries as crews switched their focus from defense to putting out hotspots, . No other injuries were reported.
