One person was taken to the hospital in an AirLife medical helicopter after a crash on U.S. 285 shut down the highway near Bailey for nearly nine hours Saturday.

Colorado State Patrol troopers responded to the crash around 7:33 a.m. Saturday and the highway shut down in both directions shortly after, according to trooper Sherri Mendez.

Investigators determined a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van driving southbound crossed the double yellow centerline and hit a Toyota Tundra truck towing a trailer that was driving northbound.

The van driver, a 29-year-old man from Mexico, was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries by Flight for Life. No other injuries were reported, state patrol officials said in a news release.

U.S. 285 was closed for more than nine hours Saturday between Traet Private Road and Mooredale Road in Park County — about 18 miles south of Aspen Park — according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
