Crash on I-25 near Alameda in Denver sends car careening into South Platte River

The two-vehicle crash happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday

An early-morning crash on Interstate 25 sent a car off the road into the South Platte River, police said.

Just before 6 a.m., the Denver Fire and Police departments responded to a two-vehicle crash on southbound I-25, north of Alameda Avenue, .

One car landed in the South Platte River and the driver — an unidentified woman — was able to pull herself out of the vehicle on her own, . Fire crews found the woman sitting on top of her car.

A water rescue team walked the driver to shore and paramedics transported her to the hospital with unknown injuries, .

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and information about the second driver was not available Tuesday.

As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, the right-most lane of southbound I-25 remained closed between U.S. 6 and Colorado 26/Alameda Avenue for the crash investigation and clean-up, .

Drivers reported up to 20-minute delays in the area, CDOT officials said.
