U.S. 40 reopened Wednesday evening after a rockslide closed the highway in both directions west of Steamboat Springs.
The rockslide happened around 7 a.m. and the highway was shut down around 8:15 a.m. between County Road 68 and County Road 50 — about 10 miles west of Steamboat Springs — .
No one was injured in the rockslide, according to CDOT spokesperson Lisa Schwantes.
A photo from CDOT officials in the area shows a pile of rocks and debris — including multiple large boulders — that crashed over the guardrail and blocked both lanes of the undivided highway.

CDOT crews removed the smaller rocks and debris on the ground and “specialized teams” were dispatched to remove the boulders and make sure the rock face bordering the road is stable, according to a CDOT news release.
A in Glenwood Canyon to clean up the remains of Tuesday’s rollover crash is postponed as crews work to clear the rockslide, transportation officials said.
There is no confirmed rescheduled date or time for the I-70 closure and cleanup, according to Schwantes.
