Human remains found in a Mesa County home’s freezer earlier this year have been identified as belonging to the former homeowner’s teenage daughter, county officials announced Friday.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office on Friday reported that DNA testing had confirmed who would have been approximately 16 years old at the time of her death and who the office said was last seen in April 2005.
House cleaners made the grisly discovery in January, shortly after the home just outside of Grand Junction city limits was sold. According to the sheriff’s office, there is no evidence that Overstreet was ever reported missing.
The Mesa County Coroner’s Office said in a social media post that and that her death is being investigated as a homicide.
No arrests have been made in the case, and sheriff’s officials on Friday declined to say whether investigators have identified any suspects.
