Memorial service announced for Golden police officer killed in suspected DUI crash

Evan Dunn’s service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mission Hills Church in Littleton

The Golden police officer who was killed last week in a suspected DUI crash on Colorado 58 will be honored in a private memorial service on Wednesday, according to .

Evan Dunn, 33, was killed in the line of duty while responding to a crash on Colorado 58 last Wednesday night, Golden police officials said. His partner, officer Bethany Grusing, was also seriously injured.

The service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mission Hills Church — 620 Southpark Drive in Littleton, foundation officials said.

“Officer Dunn’s family and the Golden Police Department greatly appreciate all of the outreach and condolences from the community; however, the memorial services will not be open to the public,” the release stated.

West County Line Road will be closed from Lucent Boulevard to South Elati Street starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday for the funeral procession, according to the release. Traffic will also be restricted on roads around the church.

Community members wanting to support Dunn’s family can stand along the Southpark Drive and Southprk Lane or visit the Golden Police Department Memorial, police said.

A Black Hawk helicopter from the Colorado Army National Guard will fly over and land in the area of Mission Hills Church before the service, foundation officials said. Drones will not be allowed to fly in the area.

Police said a Golden Police Department patrol car is parked outside of Golden City Hall, at 911 10th Street, for people who want to drop off notes or other support for Officer Dunn’s family and the Golden Police Department.

Monetary donations to Officer Dunn’s family can be made online through the .

Stephen Geer, a 43-year-old Colorado School of Mines mechanical engineering professor, was arrested and held overnight in the crash that killed Dunn, according to police records.

Geer is being investigated for vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, police said. He has not yet been charged in Colorado court, according to court records, but is set to appear in court Thursday for a filing of charges hearing.
