A stabbing at the Salvation Army Crossroads Center in Denver’s RiNo district left one person wounded Thursday night, according to police.
Officers responded to shortly after 7 p.m. The incident was still being investigated Friday morning, a Denver police spokesperson wrote in an email, and a suspect was arrested by Friday afternoon.
The victim is expected to survive. As for the protocols in place to prevent violence at the shelter, Jennifer Forker, communications and marketing director for the Salvation Army’s Intermountain Division, said shelter staff are trained in crisis management and intervention.
“We work hard to mitigate against this sort of incident, but from time to time — like at any low-barrier shelter anywhere in the United States — there will be incidents such as this,” she said. “We work hard to ensure our shelters are safe for the people whom we serve.”
Denver police also said the incident is believed to be unrelated to that took place near Park Ave West and Stout Street.
