Pat Surtain II provided optimism a day after leaving the Broncos’ 31-13 win over the Colts with an ankle injury.

“Itap better. I’m taking it day by day,” the starting cornerback said Monday at Raising Canes in Aurora, where he gave away 100 children’s bikes and helmets to members of A Precious Child, which provides opportunities and resources to Colorado children.

Surtain injured his ankle after he intercepted quarterback Anthony Richardson in the final minutes of Sunday’s game at Empower Field at Mile High. He was hit in the lower body by wide receiver Josh Downs as he tried to run with the ball upfield.

Surtain was ruled questionable but returned on the following defensive possession. He went down again after attempting to tackle running back Trey Sermon. He was helped off the field by trainers and then went into the locker room.

In Denver’s injury report on Monday, the Broncos estimated he would have been a full participant in practice. The team provided estimations because the team didn’t practice Monday ahead of its game at the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday night.

Surtain missed the team’s last Thursday night game in New Orleans on Oct. 17 after getting concussed four days earlier in the Broncos’ first matchup with the Chargers. He did not specify on Monday whether or not he expected to suit up this Thursday.
