Seven people were forced from their homes after a fire Friday morning burned a detached garage.

The structure was near East Colfax Avenue and North Chester Street,

Firefighters received the call around 12:13 a.m. and found a detached garage in flames on the scene. The fire was extinguished by 12:30 a.m. and no one was injured, according to Aurora Fire Rescue. No other buildings were damaged.

One adult who lives in the detached garage and six adults and three cats who live in an adjacent home were displaced by the fire, according to the post. The electricity to the garage had to be shut off, cutting the power to the other home, according to Aurora Fire Rescue. The American Red Cross is helping with immediate housing needs.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
