Two people were killed and two were injured Sunday afternoon in an El Paso County crash, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The first calls reporting the two-vehicle crash in unincorporated El Paso County near Elbert Road and Murphy Road came in at about 1:08 p.m. Sunday, Colorado State Patrol Trooper Gabriel Moltrer said.
That intersection is about 25 miles northeast of Colorado Springs and 3 miles south of Eastonville.
A Ram 3500 pickup truck and a Chevrolet Suburban SUV collided near the intersection, state patrol officials said in a Sunday afternoon update.
The driver of the Ram stayed on scene and one passenger in the truck was taken to the hospital, according to the update.
Two people inside the SUV died in the crash and another was airlifted to the hospital, state patrol officials said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The intersection of Elbert and Murphy is closed Sunday for the crash clean-up and investigation. State patrol officials said it will be closed for “an extended period of time” and no estimated time of reopening was available Sunday.
