DIA ground stop lifted, hundreds of flights delayed due to weather

Flights delayed by an average of 2 hours, FAA says

Federal officials lifted a ground stop at but departing flights are delayed an average of two hours because of thunderstorms sweeping across the Front Range, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The ground stop at DIA started at 4 p.m. and was lifted by 6:20 p.m., the FAA said on its website.

More than 700 flights are delayed or canceled because of the storms, according to the including 199 delayed Southwest flights, 257 United flights and 135 SkyWest flights. Of the 34 canceled flights, 28 were on SkyWest and 5 were on United.

The storms were expected to bring nickel- to pea-sized hail and 50- to 60-mph gusts to Denver metro and Eastern Plains communities, National Weather Service forecasters said.
