3 injured, 1 killed in hit-and-run incidents, Denver police say

Third crash killed driver on Interstate 25 early Saturday morning

Denver police are seeking information about vehicles involved in three hit-and-run crashes in April and May that killed one person and seriously injured three.

The first crash happened about 10:52 p.m. April 11 at Colfax Avenue and Kalamath Street, according to a Metro Denver Crime Stoppers bulletin released Friday. A white or silver pickup was traveling west on Colfax Avenue when it rear-ended a vehicle stopped at a red light at Kalamath, severely injuring the driver. The truck may have moderate or severe damage to the front end, police said.

A second hit-and-run happened about 10:07 p.m. Thursday when a vehicle described as a dark-colored Toyota Tacoma with a camper shell struck two pedestrians crossing 33rd Avenue at Quivas Street, according to another bulletin. Both pedestrians were hurt seriously. The Tacoma may have moderate damage to the front and a missing front bumper.

The third crash happened when a dark-colored pickup hit another vehicle on southbound Interstate 25 near Colorado Boulevard, killing the driver. Police spokesperson Siena Riley said no witnesses to Saturday’s crash have come forward, and officers were still investigating Saturday. The victim was later identified as Fabian Chavez-Cana, 20, by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.
