It’s heating up in Colorado. Parts of the state could see three days of 100-degree weather this week, according to the National Weather Service.
Extreme heat is forecast to hit southeastern Colorado on Thursday, with temperatures climbing to 100 degrees in and around La Junta, according to the .
The 100-degree heat will expand to other areas -- including Lamar, Eads and Pueblo in southern Colorado and Sterling, Greeley and Fort Morgan in the north -- on Friday and again on Saturday, according to the weather service.
As of Monday morning, were expected to hit 100 degrees on Friday and hover around 99 degrees on Saturday, said.
If Denver hits 100 degrees on Friday, it will break the city's record for the hottest June 20. The current heat record is 99 degrees, set in 2017, according to .
Denver will also come close to record-breaking heat on Thursday and Saturday.
Temperatures are forecast to hit 96 degrees on Thursday, just under the record of 98 degrees set in 1989, according to the weather service.
If Denver sees 99-degree temperatures on Saturday, it will tie the record for the hottest June 21, which was set in 2007.
