A wildfire that sparked near a Western Slope coal mine closed a state highway for several hours between Meeker and Craig, officials said Friday.

Moffat County fire crews were alerted to a brush fire burning near the off of Colorado 13 at 2:32 p.m., . The fire is about a mile west of the coal mine’s guard shack near the highway and County Road 17.

in both directions for about four hours and had reopened by 8 p.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The shows the fire is estimated at 100 acres and the cause is unknown. Firefighters from the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, BLM and Craig are fighting the fire.
