Large hail, tornadoes, heavy rains possible as thunderstorms move across Front Range

Update 4:48 p.m.: A flash flood warning has been issued for parts of Pueblo County amid ongoing thunderstorms along the Front Range.

The warning, in effect until 7:30 p.m., warns residents of Pueblo, Pueblo West and Blende to be prepared to seek higher ground immediately and to avoid walking or driving through flood waters in the event of flooding.

Update 2:20 p.m. Thunderstorms moving over the east metro could produce tornadoes in the next 30 minutes, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service issued a for portions of Adams and Arapahoe counties, including Bennett and Strasburg. Weather radars show a tornado is possible, along with pea-sized hail.

and 60 mph winds are expected in El Paso County south of Colorado Springs, including Security, until 2:30 p.m.

Update 2:05 p.m. Tornadoes could touch down in parts of Arapahoe and Elbert counties Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

A severe thunderstorm in effect until 2 p.m. warned residents of Colorado Springs, Security and Black Forest of the potential for 60 mph winds.

Update 1:30 p.m.: Douglas County residents can expect penny-sized hail and 40-mph winds until at least 1:45 p.m.,

The storm is expected to impact Lone Tree, Parker, Castle Pines, Castle Rock and Larkspur.

Folks should seek shelter in a sturdy structure.

Update 1:15 p.m.: Tennis ball-sized hail, wind gusts up to 70 mph and tornadoes are possible across metro Denver and the Eastern Plains, according to a from the National Weather Service.

Forecasters issued the watch just after 1 p.m. for Denver, Adams, Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, El Paso, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Washington and Weld counties. The watch lasts until at least 8 p.m.

Original story: Thunderstorms developing along the Front Range on Tuesday may bring large hail, heavy rain, gusty winds and isolated cases of flooding and tornadoes as they move east, forecasters said.

Storms will start developing around 1 p.m. with the main threat to the Interstate 25 corridor – egg-sized hail – expected between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., the agency said in a hazardous weather outlook.

“Today will be a good day to keep vehicles parked in the garage and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts,” NWS officials wrote in a .

The hazardous weather outlook applies to central and eastern Colorado, including Fort Collins, metro Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo.

Storms could also bring winds up to 70 mph and heavy rain that causes flooding, particularly over the Eastern Plains between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
