Hundreds of DIA flights delayed as thunderstorms move across Denver area

Hundreds of flights leaving because of severe thunderstorms across the Front Range, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The FAA grounded all departing flights for about an hour on Tuesday afternoon but shifted the ground stop to a ground delay at 3 p.m. Arriving flights were delayed by an average of 83 minutes because of thunderstorms, according to the agency.

There were 775 flight delays and three canceled flights as of 7:40 p.m., according to the flight tracking website

Southwest Airlines reported 249 delays, followed by United with 235 delays and SkyWest with 187.
