A 27-year-old Venezuelan man was arrested Thursday after police say he hit and killed a woman in a wheelchair who was crossing the road near East Colfax Avenue and Interstate 225.

Johandry De Los Santos Ruiz turned himself into the Aurora Police Department on Thursday night and was booked into the jail on one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, police said on social media. Additional charges are expected in the case.

Aurora police referred questions about Ruiz’s immigration status to U.S. Homeland Security Investigations.

Officers responded to the Aug. 3 and found a 47-year-old woman who was hit while using a wheelchair to cross the road, according to the police department. She died at the scene.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
