Two motorcyclists were killed and two people were injured in two Tuesday night crashes in Denver, police said.
Denver officers responded to a fatal crash on southbound Interstate 25 at Sixth Avenue in the city’s Lincoln Park neighborhood at 10:12 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
That crash, which shut down southbound I-25 at Eighth Avenue for roughly three hours, killed a motorcyclist and injured two other people, . The highway reopened at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday.
The motorcyclist rear-ended a vehicle that was slowing to avoid a disabled vehicle in traffic, police said. The driver and passenger on the bike were both thrown off.
An unidentified Denver police spokesperson originally said the motorcycle was the one struck from behind, but later corrected their statement.
The motorcycle driver died at the scene of the crash, and paramedics took the passenger to the hospital with serious injuries, police said. The driver of the car hit by the motorcycle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
About an hour and a half earlier, Denver officers responded to , near East 13th Avenue and Race Street, police said.
Police said the unidentified motorcyclist died from their injuries at the scene of the crash. The other driver is suspected of careless driving resulting in death, but has not been publicly identified by police or charged.
The victims killed in both crashes will be identified by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.
