Brett Carlini, 28, has been charged with eight counts of first-degree assault for threatening a peace officer with a weapon and one count of second-degree assault on a peace officer, according to . The 17th Judicial District Attorney’s office covers Adams and Broomfield counties.

When officers tried to arrest the suspect, he threw a knife at officers, injuring one of them. He then barricaded himself in a hotel room and the hotel was evacuated, according to the departmentap posts. Carlini was arrested without further incident after the SWAT team deployed gas into the hotel room, another post said.
The injured officer was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and another officer bitten by Carlini’s dog was also treated at the same hospital and released. The dog was put into the care of Broomfield Animal Services, the X post said.
Carlini’s next court appearance is on Sept. 25 at 1:30 p.m., according to the district attorney’s release.
