Updated 6:51 p.m. Sept. 10, 2025: The Douglas County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday identified the two people killed in the crash as Perry “Matt” Feeney, 52, of Arvada and Lee “Rob” Hill, 64, of Greenwood Village.

Two people are dead after a small plane crashed near Centennial Airport on Friday morning, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The single-engine Beech BE35 airplane crashed at 6:23 a.m. while on a return approach to the airport, the National Transportation Safety Board said in a statement Friday. The plane was being operated as a local flight out of the airport and crashed “under unknown circumstances.”

No distressed calls were received, federal officials said.

The plane caught fire during the crash, causing a threat to a nearby structure and a large generator, county officials said. The incident was first reported as an explosion, and first responders contained that fire soon after.

An NTSB investigator arrived at the crash site Friday morning to start documenting the scene and examining the aircraft, and the federal agency is working with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to obtain surveillance video and witness statements.

Federal officials were scheduled to start removing the wreckage Friday afternoon and moving it to a secure facility for further investigation, the NTSB said in a statement.

The agency will release a preliminary report about the crash in the next 30 days, with a final report published in the next one to two years.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has surveillance video or other information can contact the NTSB at witness@ntsb.gov.
