Georgetown reopened to traffic from Interstate 70 after a flood of leaf peepers caused gridlock throughout the mountain community, bringing traffic on all roads to a standstill.

The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office at 1:45 p.m. because of the extreme congestion, the agency said on social media.

The traffic blockade was lifted at 3:10 p.m., but sheriff’s officials said there is still heavy traffic through town and on Guanella Pass.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to be among the busiest travel days of the season as Coloradans flock to the mountains to take in the fall colors, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
