Westminster crash causes overnight power outages for 1,500

The power outages affecting more than 1,500 residents in and near Westminster were resolved Wednesday

At least 1,500 residents in and near Westminster lost power Tuesday night after a car crashed into an electrical box, police said.

Westminster officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on northbound Federal Boulevard at 81st Avenue, north of U.S. 36, according to a on social media.

No serious injuries were reported, but one of the drivers struck an electrical box, police said. One driver fled the scene on foot and had not been found as of Wednesday morning.

At one point, at least 1,502 Xcel Energy customers across Denver, Federal Heights, Arvada and Westminster were without power, .

All outages were resolved by Wednesday morning, according to the utility’s .

Northbound Federal Boulevard was temporarily closed overnight for the crash cleanup and investigation, police said.

No additional information about the cause of the crash was available.
