One of the two students injured in last month’s shooting at Evergreen High School was discharged Tuesday, hospital officials said.
The 14-year-old boy, who has not been publicly identified, left Children’s Hospital Colorado’s Aurora campus in good condition “to continue his recovery journey,” hospital spokesperson Blayke Roznowski said in an email on Thursday morning.
“Good” condition means the patient’s vital signs are stable and the patient is conscious and comfortable, , which uses condition descriptions approved by the American Hospital Association.
The 14-year-old was shot at close range after confronting the shooter during the Sept. 10 attack, his family wrote in a public statement.
“In those terrifying moments, our son showed a level of bravery, strength and will to survive that no child should ever be asked to display,” the boy’s family said in their statement, which was . “He and his friend confronted the assailant, which undoubtedly allowed time for more students to flee and the school to lock down. This life-altering encounter happened before alarms were set off or lockdown announcements made.”
The second victim, 18-year-old Matthew Silverstone, remained at St. Anthony’s Hospital in fair condition Thursday morning, according to spokesperson Lindsay Radford.
Silverstone was shot at the end of 16-year-old Desmond Holly’s nine-minute attack on the high school, after fighting and grappling with the shooter.
Holly, also an Evergreen student, shot himself after shooting Silverstone. He died from his injuries at St. Anthony’s Hospital later that day.
