
The long wait is over.
Two Colorado ski resorts are opening for the season this weekend, with Keystone Resort opening the slopes with 90 minutes notice on Saturday afternoon and Arapahoe Basin starting the lifts Sunday morning.
Keystone’s Schoolmarm and Silver Spoon trails will be ready for skiers and snowboarders at 3 p.m. and remain open until 6 p.m., resort officials announced on Facebook at 1:30 p.m.
Keystone is the first ski area to open for the winter season in North America, according to the resort. Opening day festivities will also include a live DJ, $5.50 beers and hot dogs to commemorate Keystone’s 55th season.
The resort will also be open at 9 a.m. Sunday and will feature more music, free donuts and coffee.
will open for the season at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, with the Black Mountain Express lift bringing skiers and snowboarders to the High Noon trail, officials announced Saturday morning.
“The resort has plans to continue snowmaking, opening more terrain as quickly as possible, heading up to the summit and starting next with Lenawee Face and Dercum’s Gulch,” A-Basin leaders said in a news release.
Opening day attendees can also take in live music, score giveaways in the lift line or grab a bite at 6th Alley Bar & Grill, Black Mountain Lodge or Legends Cafe.
A-Basin, Loveland and Keystone ski areas, started snowmaking operations more than a week ago.
