Update 5:25 p.m., Feb. 20, 2026: Four Denver Police Department officers who shot and killed an armed man after he fired at them in a convenience store will not face criminal charges, the Denver District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

Officers Alec Garcia, Vincent Roldan, Brian Martinez and Marco Nunez were legally justified in using deadly force when they shot at Hosea Rashid Moore on Oct. 27, District Attorney John Walsh said in a letter to police Chief Ron Thomas.

Moore had locked himself and two clerks inside the Maverik store and started shooting at police when they kicked in the door.

One of Moore’s shots hit Roldan in the upper left thigh and caused severe injuries, the DA’s office said in a statement. One clerk was shot in the calf by an officer during the final exchange of gunfire, and the second clerk was hit in the feet by bullet fragments.

Moore was hit multiple times in his head and body and was pronounced dead after he was taken to Denver Health.

Original story: Denver police injured two clerks when they responded to a robbery at a gas station last month, officials announced at a briefing Monday.

The employees of the Maverik convenience store were injured by either a bullet or shrapnel, one in their leg and one in their foot, during the shooting, Major Crimes Division Commander Matt Clark said.

The police department released body-worn camera videos of two recent shootings involving the agency’s officers, including the Maverik store police shooting in which police officers killed a robbery suspect.

The shooting at the Maverik store in the 3200 block of South Parker Road happened on Oct. 27. The other shooting police discussed on Monday happened on Nov. 2 near the 5100 block of Biscay Court. The agency did not identify any of the officers involved in either shooting.

Clark identified the man who was killed as Hosea Rasheed Moore, 35. He said the department had interacted with Moore before the shooting in other cases, including a domestic violence investigation.

Maverik store shooting

The shooting at the Maverik convenience store occurred after Moore asked to buy cigarettes and couldn’t pay, Clark said. Moore then tried to buy a single cigarette, which the clerks told him wasn’t possible.

Moore showed the clerks his gun and told them to lock the door and turn off the light and call the police. Moore smoked a cigarette and drank Fireball shooters before police arrived. He also placed his driver’s license and social security card on the shop’s counter, Clark said.

“It looked like he had a plan to have officers come to the location and engage the officers,” Clark said.

The video footage released Monday showed that officers heard a gunshot from within the gas station when they arrived around 8:45 p.m. before forcing their way in by breaking one of the glass doors and climbing through.

Inside, Moore and the employees were on opposite sides of the store in different corners, the video showed. Officers told the Moore to drop his gun as they approached. He responded by firing his gun at them several times.

Overall, Moore fired 10 rounds from a handgun, Clark said. He shot one in the air before police came in and the rest were fired toward officers.

Multiple police officers then fired on the suspect, who was in a corner behind shelves and by the refrigerated section. Bullets hit boxes of soda cans, which spewed onto the floor near where the suspect lay, according to the footage. Denver police fired 57 rounds, including from a rifle, during the shooting, Clark said.

Officers approached the suspect, who was bloodied, and handcuffed him, the video showed. Police said the suspect was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The two gas station employees were huddled in a corner, by the refrigerated section, and opposite the suspect when the gunfire broke out. One of the officer’s body-worn camera videos shows another officer applying a tourniquet around the leg of one of the employees who was injured.

One of the six Denver officers who responded to the robbery was also shot in his leg, and needed surgery. Both the officer and the clerks are expected to recover from their injuries.

Biscay Court police shooting

Three Denver officers responded to reports of a fight involving about 50 people near Biscay Court and East 51st Place just before 12:50 a.m. on Nov. 2. The officers didn’t take any action, but were called again to the Green Valley Ranch neighborhood about an hour later and found people arguing, Clark said.

Police heard gunshots and then the suspect ran in the direction of an officer and raised his gun. The officer fired his handgun, Clark said.

The officer fired 14 times during the incident, he said.

Three people were injured in the shooting, including the suspect. One person injured was a boy who was shot in his pelvis. A second person, an adult male, was shot in his elbow, Clark said.

The suspect was shot in his leg. Police were initially confused about whether they had apprehended the suspect because an article of clothing that had identified him — a camo jacket — had been removed during medical care, Clark said. The jacket was later found under the suspect at the hospital, he said.

Because the subject is a juvenile, Clark did not identify him, but he was charged with multiple counts of attempt of first-degree assault and juvenile in possession of a handgun

Clark confirmed that all the officers involved in the separate shootings will be removed from patrol duty until the investigation into the shootings is complete.
