Motorcyclist arrested in fatal bicycle crash west of Loveland

The motorcyclist who is accused of causing a fatal crash near Masonville, west of Loveland, in April was arrested Tuesday, according to Colorado State Patrol.

Wilson Arikita, 62, is facing a vehicular homicide-reckless driving charge, according to a release from the Colorado State Patrol. He is accused of striking a 68-year-old male bicyclist traveling eastbound on Larimer County Road 38E near Milner Mountain Ranch Road on April 27, according to an emailed press release from Colorado State Patrol.

The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crime Unit’s initial investigation showed that the motorcycle traveling eastbound at around 1:21 p.m. on Larimer County Road 38E was unable to navigate a left-hand curve after passing by another motorcycle. the emailed release stated. The motorcyclist traveled onto the right shoulder and then struck the bicyclist, who was pronounced dead on scene, according to the release.

The Larimer County Coroner’s Office identified the bicyclist as Fort Collins resident Ian Dickinson. His manner of death was ruled an accident and caused by multiple blunt force injuries, according to a .

In an emailed statement, Trooper Sherri Mendez said it took multiple months to make an arrest in the case due to the amount of evidence.

“Thoroughness is essential to building a comprehensive case for the court,” she wrote.

Arikita’s first appearance for the vehicular homicide charge he faces is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Feb. 5 in 8th Judicial District Court in Fort Collins, according to the Larimer County booking report.
