Free RTD fares, Valentine’s Day deals and other free or cheap things to do in February

Plus: Goldens in Golden and a Lunar New Year celebration

Valentine’s Day Loveland postmark

Make your Valentine’s Day cards even lovelier with a special postmark. For the 80th year, Loveland is accepting cards and love letters for its popular Valentine’s Day re-mailing program. The community program receives more than 100,000 Valentines from all 50 states and more than 100 countries around the world. Send your stamped cards in a larger envelope to: Postmaster Valentine Remailing Program, 446 E. 29th St., Loveland, CO 80538. You must have proper postage on your cards and letters, as well as the larger, outer envelope. Be sure to weigh your package to ensure you have enough postage. The deadline for U.S. destinations is Feb. 4. For those recipients within Colorado and Wyoming, it is Feb. 9. Since the deadlines are close, consider dropping off your cards at the Loveland Chamber of Commerce.

Sweetheart Festival

For 80 years, Loveland has embraced sweethearts near and far, and is inviting everyone to its annual Sweetheart Festival on Feb. 14, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free. Enjoy live performances and music, a comedy show, craft vendors and indulge in beer, wine and cocktails, sweet treats and food trucks. Be sure to visit Third Street in Foundry Plaza and watch ice sculptors at work as well as fire dancers, and look for a special QR code that unlocks exclusive promotions from downtown businesses.

RTD Zero Fare

Zero Fare for Transit Equity Day commemorates Rosa Parks’ birthday on Feb. 4. RTD offers zero-fare service to commemorate Parks’ courageous impact on civil rights. Transit Equity Day also emphasizes the need for equity in public transportation – a movement that Parks’ actions helped spur more than 60 years ago. On Feb. 4, all RTD bus and rail services, including FlexRide, Access-a-Ride, and Access on Demand services, are free, making public transit accessible to all. No tickets or passes are required – just hop aboard and go.

National Frozen Yogurt Day

Three Denver metro area frozen yogurt shops are offering a cool deal on Feb. 6, National Frozen Yogurt Day. Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, TCBY and Yogurtland are all offering a buy-one-get-one-free cup of frozen yogurt with toppings. Menchie’s has 10 shops in Colorado; Yogurtland has four shops in the metro area; and TCBY has one store in Thornton, as well as in Fort Collins and Greeley.

A chocolate affair

Chocolate lovers can start February on a sweet note. Historic Olde Town Arvada celebrates all things chocolate at the annual A Chocolate Affair on Feb. 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sweet family event includes chocolate samplings from Olde Town merchants and local chocolatiers. Samples are just $1 each with proceeds benefiting Ralston House. Plus, if you’re known for your baked goods, consider entering the Chocolate Bake-Off with your own homemade chocolate chip cookies or brownies for a chance to be crowned the best baker.

Denver Firefighters Museum free day

The Denver Firefighters Museum (1326 Tremont Place in Denver) offers free entry — a rarity — to all on Feb. 7. Museum galleries showcase firefighting paraphernalia, fire alarm technology over the years, firefighter training, historic photographs and interactive areas including a Kids Corner. This free day is part of Burn Awareness Week. Children’s Hospital Colorado staff will help kids through a Teddy Bear Burn Clinic as they examine and treat stuffies to learn about burn safety. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Goldens in Golden

On Feb. 7, golden retrievers will be flocking to Washington Avenue in Golden for a fur fest, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participating pooches and their humans are invited to gather for a free dog photo and also nab a doggie bag. Attendees also experience two Vendor Villages, entertainment, contests, food and drinks. Plus, pet parents can take their Golden for a walk along the city’s gorgeous Clear Creek walking paths. Even if you don’t have a Golden, go to just watch the adorable parade of pups strutting their stuff. Many businesses are also offering a variety of activities and specials in celebration of the “golden opportunity.”

National Park Service Free Days

Whether well-traveled or green, outdoor enthusiasts can take in the natural beauty of Colorado for free in 2026. Kicking it off, on Feb. 16, the U.S. National Park Service is waiving entrance fees to all of its parks, monuments and other sites. (Note that free days do not include amenities or user fees for activities, including fishing and camping.) Other remaining free days in 2026 are May 25, June 14, July 3 to 5, Aug, 25, Sept. 17, Oct. 27 and Nov. 11. Beginning this year, the free entrance is only available for U.S. citizens and residents. 

Landmark Theatres’ Valentine’s Day deal

Enjoy a date night at the movies from Feb. 13 to 15, when Landmark Theatres is offering a Valentine’s Movie & Combo Deal for Two at both of its Colorado locations – Landmark Mayan Theatre and The Landmark Greenwood Village. The deal includes two movie tickets, one large popcorn, two large fountain drinks and one box of Junior Mints candy. The cost is $30 before 6 p.m. and $40 after 6 p.m. The savings are available at the box office and online (select “Valentine’s Package” ticket type).

Havana Street Lunar New Year Celebration

Havana Street kicks off the Year of the Horse with a Lunar New Year Celebration on Feb. 15 from noon to 6 p.m. The family-friendly cultural event takes place in the heart of Aurora at The Stampede (2430 S. Havana St.). Admission is free, and there is a full schedule of entertainment, including lion dancers, K-Pop acts, traditional music performances, Taiko drums, martial arts demos, craft activities and more. Plus, enjoy bites and drinks from some of the top local spots and pop-up food vendors in town. As a nod to the rich diversity defining Aurora, the Marketplace goes global, showcasing businesses and vendors from around the world.

Gem & Mineral Show

A dazzling Gem & Mineral Show comes to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall (15200 W. Sixth Ave.) in Golden from Feb. 27 to March 1. Attendees will find displays of minerals from around the world, ancient fossils, meteorites, rocks that glow in the dark and handcrafted jewelry. Witness skilled lapidary artists cut gems and create beautiful polished stones. Talk with area rock hounds to learn about local field trips and collecting opportunities. Admission is free. Young enthusiasts can start their own collection with $1 grab bags filled with eight minerals. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Arvada WinterFest

WinterFest, Arvada’s annual outdoor multicultural celebration, will be held on Feb. 26 at Olde Town Square (5726 Olde Wadsworth Blvd.) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. The worldly event highlights and celebrates the variety of cultures in the community, allowing visitors to enjoy diverse arts, culture and entertainment from local artists. Plus, eat your way around the world with food vendors serving many global dishes and treats.
