Boston singer Tommy DeCarlo dies at 60 after brain cancer diagnosis

He joined the band in 2007 following Brad Delp's death.

Boston singer Tommy DeCarlo at 60.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Dad, Tommy DeCarlo, on Monday, March 9th, 2026,” his children Annie, Talia and Tommy Jr. posted on Facebook. “After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end.”

The vocalist joined the classic rock band after its original singer Brad Delp in 2007. DeCarlo and Delp’s deaths occurred 19 years apart . Delp was 55.

Boston found success with radio-friendly 1970s tunes “More Than a Feeling” and “Don’t Look Back.” The band’s biggest hit was “Amanda,” which in 1987. Those songs were written by band co-founder Tom Scholz, who has led the group since 1975.

Scholz contacted DeCarlo after hearing him perform Boston songs online. DeCarlo, a Boston fan since childhood, was working at a North Carolina Home Depot at the time and jumped at the opportunity. A from Yamaha music company quoted DeCarlo saying in 2008 “It was Brad who taught me how to sing. even though he never knew it.”

He published a memoir in 2021 detailing his improbable rise to fronting a rock band, titled “.”

Boston posted a memorial on its website featuring performing live. The site made no mention of the band’s future plans. Guitarist Gary Pihl said in that he was “” a 50-year anniversary tour might happen in 2026.
