Skier dies following crash in Breckenridge’s double-black-diamond Lake Chutes area

A skier crashed and died in a double-black-diamond, hike-to area at on Wednesday, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the ski resort after receiving a report around 1:30 p.m. that ski patrollers were administering CPR to a male skier following a crash in the , according to a .

The out-of-state skier was wearing a helmet, sheriff’s officials said, and was alone when he fell. No other skiers or snowboarders were involved.

Someone who saw the crash alerted the Breckenridge Ski Patrol, which transported the man to the Peak 8 First Aid Room, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

“Our mountain community feels these losses deeply,” Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons said in a statement. “We extend our sincere condolences to the skier’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

The investigation remains ongoing, sheriff’s officials said.

The Summit County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of the skier’s death. He has not yet been publicly identified.
