A Texas driver who crashed into a car leaving an Aurora dialysis center in 2024, killing a 71-year-old woman, was sentenced Friday to four years in Colorado prison, according to court records.
Taylor Marcus Douglas, a 31-year-old man from Huntsville, Texas, was weaving around traffic and speeding before the fatal crash on April 15, 2024, witnesses told police.
An Arapahoe County jury found Douglas guilty in November of vehicular homicide, a felony, and reckless driving, a traffic offense, according to court records. Douglas was sentenced Friday to four years in prison on the felony charge and 90 days in jail for the traffic offense, court records show.
Janis Camfield and her husband were leaving the Aurora dialysis center at about 3:30 p.m. on the day of the crash, police said. Their SUV was turning onto South Chambers Road near East Center Avenue when it was T-boned by Douglas, who was driving a black Nissan Altima.
The Texas man was driving at 98 mph seconds before the crash and 73 mph when he hit Camfield’s SUV, according to crash data collected from his vehicle.
Paramedics took both Camfield and her husband to the hospital, where the woman later died, police said.
