Wildfire west of Broadway 100% contained after evacuation warnings lifted near north Boulder

The wildfire that sparked overnight west of Broadway in north Boulder was 100% contained Wednesday morning. The “all clear” was given for anyone under an evacuation warning earlier Wednesday morning.

The 1.7-acre blaze, which officials dubbed the Goat Trail Fire, was 100% contained as of about 8:50 a.m., according to Boulder County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Vinnie Montez. The blaze had prompted an evacuation warning for areas in the west of north Boulder, but had been lifted by 8:04 a.m., according to , the county’s emergency notification system.

The wildfire, which was burning west of the 200 block of Hawthorn Avenue, was being mopped up and monitored by 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to Montez. Crews have a hose around the fire, and crews will be mopping up the remnants of the blaze throughout Wednesday, a on X read.

No injuries were reported and no structures were lost, Montez said in a at about 9:30 a.m.

Boulder fire crews had made progress in containing the blaze throughout Wednesday morning. By 6:35 a.m., crews had “,” which had first been reported at 3:06 a.m., Montez said. By 7:13 a.m., crews had the and Wednesday morning.

“We’re in a good position right now,” Montez said in the pre-dawn update. “There’s no additional active flames, and it hasn’t gone outside the original boundaries. But they continue to work on it.”

Boulder’s Emergency Notification System had ., telling residents to prepare to evacuate. That warning extended from Linden Drive on the north side to Sunshine Canyon on the south, and from Broadway to the east to just up to, but not including, the Seven Hills subdivision to the west, Montez said.

“If you are in that evacuation area, please start gathering your items to be ready to go if an evacuation order is issued,” he had said. “So this is your time to get your stuff going. Of course, if you need extra time to get out and go right now, please do that right now to be safe.”

Montez said officials also conducted a few door-to-door evacuations in the area closest to the fire, but that wasn’t considered an official evacuation order, and “was done out of an abundance of caution,” he said.

Fire crews had tentatively planned to call air support after the sun rose, he said. But by 8 a.m., air support was canceled because it wasn’t ultimately needed, according to Boulder fire.

The Goat Trail on Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks property remains closed, according to a Boulder . The Sanitas Valley Trail, Dakota Ridge, Sanitas East Ridge, and Sanitas West Ridge trails have reopened.

Fire crews from Jamestown, Lyons, Lefthand Fire Protection District, Sunshine, Mountain View Fire Rescue and Boulder County all responded to the fire, Montez said in the phone call. The sheriff’s office and Boulder police also responded, Montez said.

The cause and origin of the blaze will be investigated by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, he said.
