Stig Strong was convicted in the death of 34-year-old Jonathan Douglas, who was found beaten to death on the sidewalk near his home in the 1200 block of Mariposa Street the morning of April 18, 2023.

Investigators found surveillance video that showed a man checking car doors along Mariposa Street the night of April 17, 2023, and then approaching another person on the sidewalk, who fell to the ground.

Police determined Douglas’ home was burglarized and traced his cell phone to find Strong, who also had Douglas’ house and car keys on him when he was arrested, according to an arrest affidavit.

A Denver jury also convicted Strong of assault, aggravated robbery and burglary on Friday, court records show. He faces life prison without the possibility of parole, the mandatory sentence for first-degree murder under Colorado law.

An attorney for Strong did not immediately respond to a request for comment. His sentencing hearing has not been scheduled.
