No explosive material in suspected bombs found in western Boulder County, sheriff’s office says

Officials have determined that five devices found in western Boulder County that initially appeared to be pipe bombs did not contain any explosive material.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office , or IEDs, on Sunday in a metal case near Ponderosa Way, north of Pinecliffe, after someone opened the case and reported them to the sheriff’s office, according to .

The five devices were relocated to a secure area using a containment trailer, where members of the Boulder County Regional Bomb Squad examined them, according to an updated release. Bomb squad personnel determined the devices had the structure and components commonly used to assemble pipe bombs, but did not contain any explosive material, meaning they could not detonate.

The sheriff’s office, with help from federal partners, is investigating where the devices came from.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Boulder County Communications Center or submit a tip to the Sheriff’s Office at BCSOtips@bouldercounty.gov.

Residents in the area were asked to shelter in place from about noon until 7 p.m. Sunday while deputies and the bomb squad responded to the area.
