Broncos quarterback Bo Nix visited Dr. Norman Waldrop III last week for a scheduled check-up on his surgically repaired ankle, head coach Sean Payton confirmed Saturday.
“He had a re-check that was scheduled,” Payton said. “He’s doing great. We’re excited about his progress. Nothing to report. These guys will be coming in here — he’s here. A number of these guys are coming in the building.
“Guys will be working out Monday and then more of a team meeting next week.”
The visit did not change Nix’s prognosis or rehab timeline this offseason, a source told The Post.
He is expected to be involved when Denver’s offseason program begins May 4. Broncos coach Sean Payton and owner Greg Penner each said recently that Nix is on track to take part in the workout program when it starts and be fully cleared when Denver gets on the field for OTAs in early June.
Nix had surgery Jan. 19 after fracturing his ankle in overtime of Denver’s 33-30 AFC Divisional round win over Buffalo.
Seventh-round S Miles Scott had plenty of familiarity
Miles Scott began his college career as a wide receiver at Illinois.
His class and position-mate: Broncos 2025 third-round pick Pat Bryant.
Scott took a 30 visit to Denver about a week before the draft and spent time during that trip with Bryant. Now they’re teammates again.
Denver took Scott with the first of their three seventh-round selections, landing him at No. 246.
“The interesting thing is, if I were to tell you one of the (Illinois) safeties used to be a receiver, I’m not sure you’d select this player,” Payton said. He and general manager George Paton each lauded Scott’s toughness, tackling ability and ball skills.
“You don’t feel like you’re seeing a receiver conversion,” Payton said.
Broncos assembling undrafted free agent class
Payton and Paton sat down to start their post-draft news conference. Paton fielded the first question and his phone immediately started buzzing.
“We’re still in free agency,” Payton said as Paton got up from the table and walked away.
Indeed, Denver and the rest of the teams scrambled after the draft finished to put together their undrafted free agent classes.
The Broncos had an added wrinkle.
“It can be challenging when you have the last two picks in the draft,” Paton said.
Players or agents might ask why Denver wouldn’t just draft their player if the club wanted him.
Paton, Payton and the Broncos’ front office ended up playing a juggling game. They didn’t want to draft players they knew for sure would sign undrafted, but there’s also a lot going on.
Assistant general manager Reed Burkhardt said Denver took No. 256 all the way to the full time allotment before selecting Utah TE Dallen Bentley to ensure they had their ducks in a row.
“We almost let it toll,” he said.
