Denver International Airport flights grounded, delayed by thunderstorms

DIA arrivals are delayed by 45 minutes on average, the FAA said

Thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon, causing hundreds of delays as high winds and hail hit parts of the Front Range.

Federal Aviation Administration officials ordered the ground stop at 3:41 p.m. and set it to expire at 5 p.m., according to an agency alert. There’s a “medium” chance it will be extended.

Arriving flights are also delayed by an average of 45 minutes by the storms, FAA officials said.

Airlines at DIA reported 269 flight delays as of 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, including 88 on Southwest Airlines, 84 on United and 57 on SkyWest, according to the flight tracking website .
