
Regal Cinemas Summer Movie Express
Eleven weeks of family-friendly flicks at select theaters are scheduled for Regal’s popular (and budget-friendly!) Summer Movie Express. The series features two family-friendly movies every Monday through Thursday at 11 a.m., from June 1 to Aug. 13. Admission is only $1. Denver Fringe Festival

Original, immersive and experimental performances on the fringes of mainstream theater are the hallmark of the seventh annual Denver Fringe Festival. The festival is June 3-7, with more than 200 live performances at 20 indoor and outdoor venues. The festival spans all types of performing arts, including theater, dance, comedy, improv, cabaret and more. There is also a two-day Kids Fringe with free shows for families on June 6 and 7 (check the schedule). Denver Fringe strives to make the arts accessible to all, with tickets priced at $20 each for most shows. And, as always, 70% of ticket revenue goes straight to the performers.
King Soopers grand opening
If you live or work near Glendale, you’re probably familiar with King Soopers’ Belcaro store at 825 S. Colorado Blvd. That smaller-than-usual location is being replaced with a new 103,000-square-foot store nearby at 4201 E. Arkansas Ave. in Denver. The store officially opens on June 3 at 9 a.m., with a grand opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m. The celebration includes lots of giveaways, including free swag for the first 250 customers, a free breakfast burrito for the first 200, and a free rose for the first 100. There will also be free coffee, donuts and Monster energy drinks from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Plus, attendees can spin the Colorado Lottery Wheel for prizes from 8 to 11 a.m. Finally, from June 3 to 9, shoppers enjoy three grand opening specials at the new location: 20 cents off per gallon of gas; $2 off a grande or larger drink at the in-store Starbucks café; and $10 off a grocery purchase of $100 or more. National Donut Day
On June 5, free and cheap donuts aound: Dunkin’ is offering a free donut with any beverage purchase. Voodoo Doughnut is offering a free foldable Pink Box tote bag with any purchase in-shop for the first 100 customers. Plus, Fan Club loyalty members enjoy a free donut of their choice. 7-Eleven is offering its Classic Glazed Donut for just 50 cents, with no limit (available to 7Rewards members). Free fishing weekend
With the fish starting to bite at waters all around the state, Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s annual free fishing weekend on June 6 and 7 invites anglers of all ages to participate. No license is required, so it’s a no-cost way for Coloradans who have never fished to cast a fishing rod in our state’s many lakes and rivers. Fish anywhere in 6,000 miles of streams and more than 1,300 lakes and reservoirs.
Tropical Smoothie Café
It’s time to dig out those summer flip flops, but there’s no flip-floppin’ on this annual giveaway from Tropical Smoothie Café. Denver Chalk Art Festival

Over 48 hours, 200 professional, amateur and student artists will use chalk to create masterpieces, modern art and their own original pieces for the Denver Chalk Art Festival in the Denver Golden Triangle District. On June 6 and 7, the festival transforms streets and sidewalks into a temporary outdoor art museum. Admission is free. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day. In addition, there will be food vendors, beverage booths and live music. Children can also create their own temporary mini-masterpieces in the Kids’ Corner from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Monday Movie Madness
Glendale is again hosting its Monday Movie Madness at Infinity Park. Admission is free. Pack lots of snacks, bring a blanket and secure your spot on the lawn for a relaxing summer night under the stars. Food will also be available for purchase from an on-site food truck. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the movie starts at 7. The summer outdoor movie series kicks off on June 8 with “Twisters” and continues on June 22, July 6, July 20 and Aug. 3.
Denver Botanic Gardens
The Denver Botanic Gardens is offering Kids Free Summer Second Saturdays at both its York Street and Chatfield Farms locations. Children ages 3 to 15 get free general admission on June 13, July 11 and Aug. 8. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Child tickets are regularly $12 at York Street and $7 at Chatfield Farms, so the savings are definitely in full bloom. No code needed.
Colorado SWANA Road-E-O
The Colorado chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) holds its annual Road-E-O on June 13 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the DIA Training Center (7198 Scottsburg St.) in Denver. During the fast-paced competition, some of the region’s most skilled garbage truck drivers, mechanics and heavy equipment operators navigate precision obstacle courses using full-size trucks. Winners go on to represent Colorado at the national SWANA Road-E-O.
Denver Bike Fest
Bike enthusiasts should pedal over to the York Street Yards (3821-3893 Steele St.) in Denver on June 13 for Denver Bike Fest, a free community celebration of all things biking. The event “cycles around” from 3 to 9 p.m. Meet more than 25 local bike organizations, community groups and shops that make Denver so bike-friendly. Attendees enjoy performances from local artists and bands, while grabbing a bite or drink from food trucks and vendors. From 3 to 8:30 p.m., festival sponsor Z Cycle Shop will be providing free bike parking at the south side entrance.
Bass Pro Shops’ Gone Fishing
Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s invite families to test the fish-filled waters for free at its Gone Fishing events on June 13 & 14 and June 20 & 21. The fishy fun runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Youngsters can learn easy techniques, catch their first fish or fine-tune their fishing skills in a real catch-and-release pond. Anglers of all ages are encouraged to submit their kids’ favorite fishin’ photos for a chance to be featured in the new Kids Braggin’ Board. ;
Classic Rock Cruise-In Car Show
The Vintage Car Club of Castle Rock brings its array of vehicles to downtown Castle Rock’s Wilcox Square on June 19 and 20. Things get rolling on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. with a free concert by the Shelvis & The Roustabouts and about 50 cars on display. On Saturday, festivities run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include more than 300 vintage and unique cars. There’s also live music by Steve and the Cruisers and 6202, plus food trucks, beer and family games. Kids attractions include free bounce houses, free face painters, free rock wall, music and ice cream.
Summer Solstice Celebration
The Orchard Town Center (14697 Delaware St.) in Westminster is hosting a free party on June 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. featuring nature-inspired activities, an outdoor market with local vendors, music and interactive outdoor games and crafts. In partnership with Butterfly Pavilion, families can also explore interactive moments, educational displays and a kid-friendly scavenger hunt celebrating the magic of pollinators. Celebrate Father’s Day weekend with “Dad & Me” lawn games. Plus, an on-site bookmobile will be handing out free books.
Highlands Street Fair
Head over to West 32nd Street between Irving and Perry for the annual Highlands Street Fair on June 20 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. This free family-friendly event features live music, more than 100 vendors, food trucks and family-friendly activities. The day will be filled with popular local acts including Digg, Intergalactic Peace Jelly, Denver Metro Jazz and more.
Frederick in Flight
Frederick celebrates flight with its annual Frederick in Flight — including hot air balloon lifts, tethered balloon rides, a Glow Party with beer garden and food trucks, and free fun for the family from June 26 to 28. Watch about 25 hot air balloons lift off at daybreak (that’s about 6 a.m.) at Centennial Park (601 Eighth St.), if weather conditions are ideal. On Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m., a Balloon Bash in Centennial Park will feature live music, food trucks, a beer garden, activities for kids, and hot air balloons candle-sticking and glowing (weather permitting).
Troutfest Colorado
Troutfest Colorado is a celebration of conservation, education and community at Coors Field on June 27, from noon to 5 p.m. The event is for anglers, would-be anglers and outdoor enthusiasts, as well as families looking for a fun day at the ballpark. Attendees enjoy live music, professional and instructional fly tying, casting clinics and demos. Admission is free, but registration is required. Park for free in Coors Field Lot A and enter at Gate A (1663 Park Ave. West).
