Colorado’s Tad Boyle has found more young talent to add to the roster for next season.
On Wednesday, Eric Jacobsen, a 6-foot-11 forward from Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, announced his verbal commitment to Boyle and the Buffaloes.
Also, on Thursday CU officially announced the signing of Amir Jones, a 6-foot-3 guard from Los Angeles who committed in late May.
The additions of Jacobsen and Jones put CU at 15 players, the maximum allowed by the NCAA. Seven of those players are incoming freshmen.
Jacobsen took an official visit to the Boulder campus Monday. He also had offers from New Mexico, UAB and New Hampshire.
The younger brother of Purdue’s Daniel Jacobsen, a 7-foot-4 center, Eric played his last two years of high school at Brewster Academy. He suffered a torn ACL as a junior, however, and was not cleared this past year until early in January.
As a sophomore at La Cueva (New Mexico) High School, Jacobsen averaged 10.0 points and 8.4 rebounds in 32 games.
Jones, a 6-foot-3 combo guard from Harvard-Westlake (California) High School, is a former Georgia State commit. He averaged 12 points, five rebounds and four assists as a senior, earning All-Mission League second team honors.
During his prep career, he was a part of two CIF open state championship teams, while also going to the semifinals and quarterfinals in the other two seasons.
“Amir is the epitome of the term sleeper,” Boyle said in a news release. “His ability to defend on and off the ball, as well as shoot it, makes him an ideal Colorado Buffalo.”

During the November signing period, CU added just one incoming freshman, Rider Portela from the Phoenix area.
The Buffs have now added five scholarship freshmen this spring: Goc Malual and Alex Dickeson from Australia; Chase Hill from San Antonio; Jones; and Jacobsen. In addition, freshman Luke Mirhashemi of Newport Beach, California, committed last month as a walk-on.
The Buffs have yet to officially announce the additions of Jacobsen and Mirhashemi.
CU’s roster is anchored by four returning scholarship players: Barrington Hargress, Jalin Holland, Ian Inman and Josiah Sanders. Walk-on Nick Randall is also returning.
In addition to the seven freshmen, CU has added three transfers this offseason: Noah Feddersen (North Dakota State), David Gomez (Charlotte) and Justin Neely (UNC Greensboro).
