An inmate’s death is under investigation after he was found unresponsive in a southern Colorado prison on Sunday, according to federal officials.
Ryder Holliday, 28, was found unresponsive at the U.S. Penitentiary in Florence, a high-security prison, at about 7:10 p.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Paramedics took Holliday to the hospital, where he was placed on life support, prison officials said. Holliday was pronounced dead on Wednesday, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified, the release stated.
Information about the cause of Holliday’s death was not available, but federal officials said no other inmates or prison employees were injured.
Holliday was serving a one-year sentence from the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas for conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, according to the release. He arrived at the Florence prison on May 11, federal officials said.
