A Denver jury convicted a man of first-degree murder in the shooting death of a 28-year-old during a drug deal near Cheesman Park, according to the district attorney’s office.

Travis Jamahal Jackson, 41, was also convicted of attempted murder, second-degree murder and assault for the Nov. 30, 2023, shooting that killed Michael Milligan.

According to an arrest affidavit, Milligan and a friend were planning to sell Jackson 4 pounds of marijuana Milligan had purchased from a medical dispensary, but when they met Jackson, Jackson shot Milligan instead of paying and fled the scene.

Detectives identified Jackson by tracking his phone number and a witness identifying him, police wrote in the affidavit.

Jackson is set to be sentenced on Aug. 20 and faces life in prison without the possibility of parole, which is the mandatory sentence for a first-degree murder conviction under Colorado law.

His attorney, Anthony Camera with Denver law firm Camera Law, said the two-week trial was a tough case that presented some “very strong appellate issues.” They plan to appeal the verdict, Camera said.
