Lakewood closes southern access to Big Soda Lake in Bear Creek Lake Park

The unofficial south entrance to Big Soda Lake will close immediately due to illegal parking and destruction of habitat, officials announced Friday.

Visitors to Big Soda Lake, which is part of , have been improperly using the area off West Hampden Avenue to launch water vessels from a sandy area on the southern shore. But in doing so, they’ve destroyed natural habitat, left behind human and animal waste and blocked emergency access, according to park officials.

The city of Lakewood announced Friday afternoon. The official park entrance is on the north side of the park off of Morrison Road.
