The Boulder County Coroner’s Office has identified Jeffrey Carlin, 41, as the person who died Sunday on Kiener’s Route on the upper east face of Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Rocky Mountain National Park Search and Rescue team members received a report of the incident early Sunday afternoon, the release said. Teton County Search and Rescue (TCSAR) provided helicopter support and assisted Rocky Mountain National Park personnel in recovery operations.
Kiener’s Route remained closed overnight Sunday and reopened Monday morning.
The incident is currently under investigation. Park public affairs specialist Jamie Richards said Monday afternoon that no further information was available.
Kiener’s Route is the easiest route up Longs Peak’s east face, according to the American Alpine Institute website. “(T)his is an entry level route into intermediate alpine climbing and should not be taken lightly,” the AAI says.
