The Colorado State Patrol arrested an off-duty Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy for alleged drunken driving Sunday.
Jeffco deputies responded to a report of someone asleep at the wheel of a vehicle at an apartment complex near West Hampden Avenue Service South and South Harlan Street on Sunday morning.
They requested help from the state patrol because law enforcement agencies generally don’t allow officers to investigate crimes involving their colleagues.
State troopers arrested Tyler Stahl, an off-duty deputy, at about 8:05 a.m. Sunday on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said Stahl was released to a family member and is on paid administrative leave while the state patrol investigates. After that, the sheriff’s office will conduct an internal investigation and take “appropriate action” based on the findings, it said in a news release.
