Major League Baseball released its 2027 schedule on Thursday, and the Rockies will open their season on March 25 in San Francisco.
Colorado’s home opener — a downtown quasi-holiday — will be Thursday, April 1, against the Dodgers at Coors Field. It will be the fifth time in franchise history that the Rockies will host the Dodgers in their home opener, with the most recent being 2022.
Other notable home games include the Cubs on Father’s Day (part of a three-game series at “Wrigley Field West”), the Blue Jays on the Fourth of July and the Reds on Labor Day. Plus, the Yankees return to LoDo for a three-game series July 26-28.
Other American League teams coming to Denver in 2027 are the Athletics (April 30-May 2), Tigers (May 3-5), Twins (May 14-16), Astros (May 25-27), Blue Jays (July 2-4), White Sox (August 13-15) and Angels (August 31-Sept. 2).
An interesting wrinkle in the schedule is a split doubleheader against the Padres on July 10, the Saturday before the All-Star break.
The 2027 MLB season will open with a game on Netflix on March 24, with the teams to be determined. The traditional Opening Day will be March 25, the day of Colorado’s first game. It will be the earliest traditional opening day in MLB history, excluding special season-openers and international openers.
There is a possibility that the season may be delayed or may not happen. Baseball’s labor contract is set to expire Dec. 1, and a management lockout is expected.
The Home Run Derby and 97th All-Star Game will be held at Wrigley Field on July 12 and 13, respectively, as the Cubs’ stadium becomes the only active MLB venue to host the game for the fourth time. The season will conclude on Sept. 26, when the Rockies finish off a six-game homestand against the Giants.
