Three men died and two were injured when a speeding SUV crashed Saturday evening in northern Colorado, state patrol officials said.
Five men were thrown from the SUV, a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe, when it crashed on Weld County Road 80 near Ault at approximately 5:18 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol. Ault is roughly 12 miles north of Greeley.
The Chevrolet veered off the right side of the road into a ditch, lost control and rolled as it swerved back onto the road, state patrol officials said.
Three passengers inside the Chevrolet died in the crash: a 19-year-old man from Eaton, a 20-year-old man from Eaton and a 19-year-old man from Greeley, according to the release. They will be identified by the Weld County Coroner’s Office.
The driver, a 20-year-old man from Wyoming, was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition, state patrol officials said. The fourth passenger, a 19-year-old man from Eaton, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Eastbound Weld County Road 80 was closed for six hours following the crash, reopening around 11:15 p.m., according to the state patrol.
