A Denver man was sentenced to 40 years in prison Monday after he was convicted of second-degree murder in connection with a 2024 fatal shooting at a gas station.
Simon Gurule, 30, was convicted of second-degree murder, first-degree assault and accessory to a crime in May. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder conviction, plus 10 years for assault. Another four-year sentence, for the accessory conviction, will be served simultaneously with his other terms, .
His conviction and sentencing came roughly two years after Gurule and a 16-year-old boy were arrested in connection with the killing of Manuel Quintana at a gas station in west Denver. Quintana was shot after a suspect got out of a car on June 8, 2024, and opened fire on him. According to the DA’s office, Gurule drove the vehicle for the shooter, Ronnie Hernandez.
Quintana, 29, was pronounced dead at the hospital. A woman who was in Quintana’s car was also shot and was taken to the hospital.
Hernandez pleaded guilty to murder in October and was also sentenced to 40 years in prison. He was 18 at the time of his sentencing and was charged as an adult.
