Man killed in bike crash near Boulder County’s Gold Hill identified

The man killed after going near Gold Hill in western Boulder County has been identified as Aidan Smith, according to a .

Smith, 24, died early Saturday morning after he and four friends left the Gold Hill Inn and headed south on Gold Run Road, with Smith on a bicycle, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. Smith’s friend found him still breathing at the bottom of the embankment, but first responders later pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office originally said the man who died in the crash was 25 years old, not 24.

Smith and one of his friends rode bikes, while the other three friends drove down Gold Run Road around 1 a.m. Saturday. When the vehicle passed Smith and his friend, the friend turned and noticed Smith was gone, before seeing a bike light glowing down the embankment, which prompted the friend to climb down and call first responders, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Gold Run Road was closed from about 1 a.m. to about 8 a.m. Saturday while officials responded to the crash.
